Ashok today welcomed the news that postal deliveries to remote addresses in parts of East Cleveland would not now be threatened with the axe after the Royal Mail raised concerns over the health and safety implications of using country lanes.

Concerns were flagged up by both Ashok and Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council and he made urgent contact with Royal Mail bosses. Now Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council have brokered a deal which includes the revamp of 13 roads in the Scaling Dam and Grinkle Lane areas.

Ashok said “I am delighted at this news.   Local people were in contact with me very frightened that their mail would no longer be delivered.  These included a person who was blind and others who were elderly and could not manage to make a long journey to a Royal Mail sorting office in Skelton”

“The initiative taken by Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council has meant that the Royal Mail cannot now make the excuse of ‘health and safety’ to cease deliveries, an excuse I was always sceptical of, given that they had made letter deliveries to these addresses for decades now.  I will now contacting thiose who got in touch with me to tell them the good news – by post of course !”
