Ashok today asked the Royal Mail group to urgently ‘think again’ about their threat to end postal deliveries to some isolated households in East Cleveland.

The Royal Mail group have written to a number of people living in farmhouse only accessible by private roads threatening that they may have their postal deliveries ended because of fears over health and safety for postal deliverers.

Ashok said “I have written to Royal Mail’s Corporate Head, Alan Crozier, to ask for more clarity on this issue.   I am annoyed that, as the local MP, Royal Mail has not been in touch with me on the matter and I am also concerned that, from what I can gather, no warning was given to the affected households.  This seems to run contrary to Royal Mail’s Corporate Responsibility Policy which states ‘We are committed to doing the right thing for our people, our business and the communities we operate in”

“The oddity of this whole issue is that the Royal Mail have been delivering letters to these addresses for many years now, that to my knowledge there has been no accident involving Royal Mail vehicles, and, given this, it seems odd that health and safety issues have only just emerged”

“I feel that if such cuts to deliveries are pushed through, they could be the precursor to more cuts in the future.”
