Prime Minister Gordon Brown Praises Sucesses of South Tees Hospital Trust, 31st January 2008

PRIME MINISTER PRAISES SUCESSES OF THE SOUTH TEES HOSPITALS TRUST IN HOUSE OF COMMONS

Yesterday (January 30th) the Prime Minister, in reply to a question from Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland Labour MP, Ashok Kumar, praised the work of the South Tees Hospitals NHS Trust in winning the coveted ‘Health Service Journal Award’ as one of the most improved and best performing NHS Acute Trusts in the country.

Ashok said ‘I asked the Prime Minister at his weekly Question Time to share with me my delight about the South Tees Hospitals Trust winning this award, an award that is a testament to the work of all the staff at the Trust and the hospitals and facilities that it manages.   The work of the staff, the management and the trust board has borne fruit in dealing successfully with the need to improve financial performance, uprate patient care and to see that the Trust can fully meet the health needs of the population it serves.”

“I was delighted in the Prime Minister’s answer, which I see a real mark of confidence in the work of the Trust”

South Tees Hospitals Trust Chief executive Simon Pleydell, said: “It is good to receive personal congratulations from the prime minister on our achievement and to have such support from one of our local MPs.

“ Last year was an incredible year for us and  I know the award was a boost to the morale of staff on both sites who have put in the sheer hard work and effort to achieve this national recognition. I really am proud of them – this was their award.

“Of course, the NHS never stands still and while this is great news we do - and will - continue to face problems and difficulties ahead but I’m confident we can meet these challenges to further improve the quality of care we provide for the population we serve.”
